CLARKSTON, WA – Continuing our coverage in Washington, those in law enforcement are making a huge dent in illegal grow arrests an effort that should help pot entrepreneurs regulate prices.
Washington state troopers said they’ve only eliminated 40,000 plants this year off of public lands. Compare that to 2009 when they confiscated 600,000 plants.
Lieutenant Chris Sweet said drug trafficking organizations went undetected in farmland and state forests for a long time. But the recent crackdown has moved the illegal drug rings out of the state.
“We’re going to continue for years on end to suppress the problem and make sure that we don’t have drug trafficking organizations growing in our state for illegal purposes,” said Sweet.
Not only is growing pot without a license illegal in the state, using public lands to do so harms the environment. Sweet said criminals sneak onto farmland and plant weed in the center of vast fields. Or they’ll booby trap and irrigate federal forests to get the job done.
