As the Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) continues to issue licenses, including the first retail licenses this summer, we anticipate questions about marketing and advertising. Specifically, we anticipate questions from new licensees about how they may promote their business through advertising and marketing.
There are restrictions in both law and rule that restrict certain marijuana-related advertising. If you have not already, you may read the basics on the I-502 section of the WSLCB website. At the same time, there are certain freedoms allowed under the First Amendment.
Questions on Marketing and Advertising
The WSLCB is interested in hearing your specific questions about marketing and advertising under law and/or rule. We will compile and consolidate the questions into a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document and make it available on our website and elsewhere.*
Sample questions may include:
Q: Can I sell tee-shirts with my company’s tradename and logo on them?
Q: Can I sponsor a community event using my tradename and logo?
Q: Can I set up a separate business to promote my marijuana retail store?
Send Questions to Email Mailbox Below
Please send your questions to MJQuestions@liq.wa.gov by July 1, 2014. This temporary mailbox will be a repository for these questions. Please don’t send questions other than those related to marketing and advertising. All other questions should be between applicants and their licensing investigator.
