SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane City Council spelled out exactly where medical and recreational marijuana shops may open in Spokane.
The council made its decision on Monday night.
The council approved a new ordinance that the marijuana shops can be established in business, commercial, industrial, and downtown zones.
The planning commission originally asked the council to allow pot shops in small business zones. But after numerous testimonies, city leaders decided against that zone.
Council members said there are no restrictions on how far those shops can be from each other. They also decided to stay consistent with state regulations, banning the shops from being within 1,000 feet from parks, libraries, and schools.
The ordinance went into effect immediately.
