The Washington State Liquor Control Board reported this morning that it will issue the state’s first marijuana license on Wednesday. That license will go to a producer/processor … a grower who will also make marijuana infused products. And that’s all we know right now, though we’re doing that thing where we call everyone one we know to find out who it is (… if it’s you, give me a call!).
Here is what the state sent out:
Media Advisory: Board to Issue First Recreational Marijuana License Wednesday
State’s first producer / processor licensee will be present at Board meeting and available to speak with media
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Liquor Control Board (WSLCB) will issue the first recreational marijuana license at its regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday morning. The licensee will be present and available to speak with the media.
Time: 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Location: 3000 Pacific Avenue, WSLCB Board Room, Olympia, WA 98504
Anyway, it’s been a long, hard trip from the 2012 election, the implementation of I-502 through the creation of the many rules and regulations for creating a recreational market etc … and the real work is just getting started. Will these businesses be able to make money with the taxes leveled by the state, and the IRS rules that keep them from being able to deduct expenses like a regular business? Will they find adequate banking so they don’t have to handle all that cash? Will the feds … etc.
